Two people were taken into custody Saturday after an early morning disturbance call that resulted in the Region Six Special Operations Group being activated.

“We received a disturbance call about 1:40 a.m. Saturday to a home located in the 600 block of East Crow,” said Sgt. Sha King. “When officers arrived they learned that two people had sustained injuries and a man had barricaded himself inside the house with a child.”

The child was under the age of 10.

Several hours later, at approximately 6 a.m., officers made entry into the home and found Bernardo Monreal, 36, barricaded in a bedroom with the child and took him into custody without incident.

“The child was unharmed and taken into protective custody,” King said. “The child did live at the residence but we’re not sure the relation to (Monreal).”

Monreal was charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

He remains in the Erath County Jail held on a $230,000 bond.

Monreal has a long criminal history dating back to 2007 when he was charged with driving with a suspended license, jumping bail, speeding and not securing a child in a seatbelt.

In 2008, 2012 and 2013 he was charged with public intoxication and in 2009, he was charged with evading arrest with a vehicle.

Rosabelle Gloria Sanchez, 35, was also arrested Saturday morning for public intoxication.
