At the recent Stephenville ISD board of trustees meeting director of maintenance, Keith Starnes, gave an update on the completion of summer work projects — which was quite an impressive list.

“We’ve actually completed more than 2,000 work orders,” Starnes told the board. “This list is just the additional stuff we did there, not our routine work.”

Here is a look at the projects completed and others underway.

Stephenville High School 

Practice gym grind and new finish Main gym screen and refinish Front parking lot sealcoat and restripe New roof on green house with inflation fans installed (underway as of July 17) Athletic Fields 

Top dress, aerate and verticut all high school fields (football and baseball) Top dress, aerate and verticut Lem Brock Field “We decided to spend a lot more time on the fields than we usually do,” Starnes said about the athletics maintenance work.

SHS Administration 

Remodeled office and large meeting room “There will be a lot more usable space in there now,” Starnes said about the room.

Henderson Junior High 

Sidewalks added to allow side parking lots walk access to the front of the building and extended drop-off sidewalk “People were having to walk through the grass if they had to park in the back parking lot,” Starnes said.

Gym floor screen and finish Switched out lights in 215 classrooms (experimenting with new lights) Compost added to campus for improved grounds appearance Gilbert Intermediate

Electrical added to each outside classroom Emergency ballast added to hall lights Annex classrooms painted PE dressing room floor repaired (50 percent complete) Relocate upper playground equipment to building side of waterway (underway as of July 17) “The kids were crossing that water drainage and we were finding snakes in there so we’re relocating the playground to the other side and keeping the kids away from the water,” Starnes said. “It’s a major safety concern.”

Hook Elementary
