For the past 23 years Cindy Stafford has served as Stephenville’s city secretary, but on Friday, July 14, that era will come to an end.

Stafford plans to retire, and marking the end of a long career with the city will be a retirement reception from 4-6 p.m. at City Hall at City Limits.

Betty Chew, a good friend and longtime co-worker of Stafford’s, said the public is invited to the celebration.

During Stafford’s time at City Hall she has worked for five city administrators, six mayors and 49 council members.

Stafford and her husband David have a 20-acre ranch that will keep her busy after retirement. The couple also plans to do a little traveling to see family.

Otherwise, she plans to do exactly what she wants.

“A friend of mine bought me a T-shirt that says, ‘I don’t want to. I don’t have to. You can’t make me. I’m retired,’” she joked. “Leaving is bittersweet, but it’s the way things should be.”
