The fifth annual Handsome Hunks competition will continue to benefit one of the area’s most important non-profit organizations, Meals on Wheels of Erath County.

Lisa Pendleton, who is in charge of the event, said the organization was chosen because it provides meals to the elderly and area shut-ins.

“Many of their clients wouldn’t receive adequate meals if this organization didn’t exist,” Pendleton said. “Their work is so important to this community. The Handsome Hunks of Erath County competition is a lot of fun, but there is a serious side to it as well. Our goal is to raise money so Meals on Wheels can continue doing its important work.”

Last year’s event raised $30,000, and that means a lot to Whitney Lee, who is the executive director of MOW.

Lee said the organization serves approximately 350 people during the year and about 150-175 of those receive a hot meal on a daily basis.

“About a third of the meals we deliver are paid for by local funds - that means the Handsome Hunks of Erath County event helps keep local elderly and disabled folks off waiting lists for services,” Lee said. “Without the support of this event, we would not be able to keep up with the demand. And at a time like we are facing now - with proposed budget cuts - local support is even more critical.”

Individual tickets to the event are not being sold at this time, but a table of 10 can be purchased for $750 from any of the hunks or by calling Pendleton at 817-715-1682.

Tables purchased from the hunks will go toward the People’s Choice Award.

Former hunk David Baskett and former contestant Shane Pack are once again emceeing the event.
