With summer right around the corner, here is a look at camps taking place June-August in the Stephenville area.
Art, Theatre & Creative Writing Camp
Stephenville High School will hold its annual art and theatre camp with the addition of creative writing June 5-8 at the high school.
“I’m so excited about the play we are tackling this summer. It will be fun for all ages. Pirates the Musical has some meaty acting roles for older kids and of course being a pirate is always fun,” said SHS theatre director Mindy Pope. “I’m excited about offering creative writing as a choice this year. Campers will have the opportunity to write and illustrate their own pirate comic book.”
Cost is $70 per session or $140 for both. Registration must be done by May 26 to be guaranteed a spot.
“Art campers will be expanding their art skills with opportunities to draw, paint, sculpt clay and even create a piece of jewelry,” said SHS art teacher Emily McLemore.
For more information about this camp call 254-552-6494. There are several sessions.
Stephenville Museum’s Camp Pioneer
The Stephenville Historical House Museum will hold its annual Camp Pioneer from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. June 5-8 at the museum. This year’s theme is “Exploring Erath History” and will feature fun, educational activities.
"This camp takes kids on a tour of our local history through hands-on activities and visits from figures who helped shape Erath County," said camp coordinator Kate Barton. "From bee keeping, to a day filled with local Civil War history and a day dedicated to women of Erath, this camp is loaded with engaging activities that promote the history of our great community."
The cost is $75 for kids entering second-fifth grades. Register at the museum office or call 254-965-5880.

The camp will be under the direction of Gilbert Intermediate art teacher Liz Meiron.
“Liz has created a series of lesson plans for each day of camp to include painting, ceramics, a study of color wheel and famous artists and of course, the signature camp project — tie dye T-shirts,” said CTFAC Executive Director Julie Crouch Smith.
