It’s election day and Stephenville voters are poised to make a crucial decision on the makeup of the city council.

Four races are on the ballot:

Place 1 - incumbent Mark McClinton, challenger Nick Robinson

Place 3 - incumbent Doug Svien, challenger Mandy McGee

Place 5 - incumbent Rhett Harrison, challenger Walter Wood

Place 7 - incumbent Sherry Zachery, challenger David Baskett.

Turnout in early voting was close to normal, according to Erath County clerk Gwinda Jones.

“The turnout was similar to what we have had in years past,” Jones said.

In Stephenville, 587 voted early and 398 in Dublin.

Jones said in 2015, 494 voters cast early ballots and 508 in 2016.

Dublin residents will also vote on the city council and consider a $10 million school bond that addresses security issues, field and track renovations and a multi-purpose facility at the elementary school.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. today at the Erath County Courthouse and Dublin Annex.

Jones said Stephenville City Council results should be available by 7:30 p.m.

News Editor Autumn Owens will be at the courthouse awaiting returns and reporting as they come in.
