At the second semi-annual Entrepreneurs of Erath Business Plan Competition banquet at Tarleton State University Friday, Flight Reach Productions — a remote-control drone photography company — took first place and a check for $7,500 plus additional prizes.
The competition is designed to help local entrepreneurs in launching or expanding businesses in Erath County and awards cash and prizes to local entrepreneurs who wrote the best business plans.
A total of $55,000 — $10,000 in cash and $45,000 in professional services was awarded to the seven finalists in the competition, with Von Drogo Kennels coming in second and receiving a $4,000 check, SlimPickins Outfitters taking third and receiving a $1,500 check — and the balance of the cash going to the other four companies in the final seven.
Randy Burch, director of Tarleton’s Small Business Development Center, said, “Everyone did a great job and we were all impressed with the quality of work submitted. As it was in the first competition, we had a difficult time choosing the winners.
“We are excited about the positive economic impact this contest brings to the area, and expect to have new jobs created in Stephenville and Erath County as a result of this effort.”

The non-cash prizes awarded to the top three winners consist of of professional services in the areas of marketing, accounting, web design, legal, human resource, engineering and a Stephenville Chamber of Commerce membership.
