STEPHENVILLE – Misty Wilson has announced the signing of Godley star Makaila Tyer to a National Letter of Intent.

"We are extremely excited about Makaila choosing Tarleton to continue her basketball career," said Wilson. "Makaila has a very high basketball IQ and one thing that stood out to me when watching her play was that she knew her role and played it very well. Makaila is a player that can really knock down outside shots and stretch the floor within the half-court offense. Makaila played within a very good program in Godley – one that made it to the state semifinal game – and she was a vital part of their success in the postseason.

"I am confident that Makaila will fit into our program and style of play and will pick up on our system quickly," she added. "Makaila is an outstanding young lady and I look forward to coaching her and watching her grow as a person and a player in the next four years."

Tyer comes to Tarleton after a three-year standout career at Godley, which began as a sophomore when she was named the District and County Offensive MVP as well as TABC all-region and all-state and TGCA all-state.

Over her final two seasons, Tyer went on to earn back-to-back District and County MVP honors as well as two consecutive TABC all-region, TABC all-state, TGCA all-state, and all-star recognition. Last year, Tyer guided Godley to the 4A semifinals and was named the MVP of the regional tournament. She averaged 11.0 points, 3.8 assists, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.6 steals per game in her farewell campaign.

Tyer becomes the third member of Wilson's 2017 recruiting class, joining Ruthie Fox (Odessa) and Haley Fiesler (Burnet).
