This week’s Pet of the Week is a beautiful Husky mix puppy named Candy. She’s approximately 4 to 5 months old, with a gentle, friendly, playful disposition.

Erath County Humane Society Executive Director Diane McCoy says, “She came in as a stray and she has some mange and has lost some hair. But we’ve treated her with Demodex so it’s not contagious.

“She’ll need to be on Braveco after that, but as long as she gets that and some quiet and love, her hair will come back in just fine. This is a pretty stimulating place and she just needs some calm — but she’ll make a great pet.”

Candy has had all her Parvo shots and she’s been wormed, but she’s a little too young for spaying, and she’ll need her rabies vaccinations.

"She came to us in February and since she was a stray, we don’t know how she is with kids, but she’s great with adults and other dogs,” McCoy said.

If you’d like to meet Candy or any of the other dogs or cats currently living at the shelter stop by at 891 East Road or call 254-965-3247. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

McCoy asked that we mention the content of the sign next to the front gate at ECHS that reads: “DO NOT bring animals into the shelter without clearance from the office FIRST! This is for the safety of the animals and all handlers. Thank you!”

In other words, please call before you bring an animal in for drop off at the ECHS.
