Erath County sheriff’s investigators say jealousy might have been the motive behind last week’s shooting of 36-year-old Cody Dickson.
The suspect, Bruce Vannoy, is now being held at the Erath County Jail charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Chief Deputy Heath Crossland said Thursday that Dickson’s girlfriend, who he has children with, had an on-and-off again relationship with Vannoy.
“What we know is that there was a confrontation between the victim and Vannoy near the victim’s residence,” Crossland said. “After Vannoy shot him, the victim was able to drive to the house where the (girlfriend) was.”
The woman called 9-1-1 and drove Dickson to Texas Health Stephenville Hospital.
Dickson was shot once in the neck and transported by air to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waco, where he reportedly remains in ICU.
