A suspect in the shooting of a 36-year-old Erath County man was arraigned Saturday in Grayson County on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Bruce Duane Vannoy, 42, is being held in the Grayson County Jail on a $500,000 bond and will be transferred to the Erath County Jail sometime this week.
“Erath County investigators, working with members of the Stephenville Police Department and the District Attorney’s office, developed information as to the whereabouts of an individual connected to the shooting,” Chief Deputy Heath Crossland wrote in statement. “The investigation led to a residence in Collinsville, where Texas Rangers assisted in locating a vehicle that may have been seen at the offense location.”
On Friday, March 10, the Erath County resident was shot in the neck while traveling in his vehicle near County Road 539 and FM 2481 between Three-Way and Duffau.
He was airlifted to a hospital in Waco and a female witness and acquaintance of the victim was interviewed by deputies.
“The victim in this offense has had one surgery and is scheduled for more in the coming days,” Crossland said.
A warrant for Vannoy was obtained by Texas Rangers and he was taken into custody and interviewed in Sherman by Stephenville investigators.
“This case is still under investigation as to the motive for the offense,” Crossland said. “The Erath County Sheriff’s Office learned that the suspect in this offense was known to the victim and witness.”
