There has been more fallout from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement’s investigation into reported wrongdoings at the Erath County Sheriff’s Office.

Erath County Jail Administrator Kenny Philips was terminated on Tuesday and just hours later Sgt. David Bass resigned.

Philips had been the jail administrator for the past two years.

Matt Coates, who was appointed interim sheriff in December, said the termination was a result of TCOLE’s investigation.

“That’s where it originated for us,” Coates said Wednesday. “Compliance with jail standards and practices are mandated by state and federal law. Personnel decisions and changes were necessary to maintain that compliance.”

Coates declined to offer further details about the latest termination.

Five other top officials were relieved of their posts in December.

TCOLE has still not released details of their findings citing the pending investigation.
