Conner Stewart has already proved himself to be a talented trumpet player making it to the area competition as a freshman in the Stephenville High School Yellow Jacket Band - and with the passion he has, plans to continue into college and make a career of music.
“I love band. I have a lot of friends who are in band and I would like to go to college and keep playing my instrument,” he said. “Maybe major in music and teach people how to play.”
Stewart picked up the trumpet in sixth grade.
“I chose it because it’s the instrument I did the best with and once I started I loved it,” he said.
Making it to area as a freshman was impressive, but it wasn’t easy.
“It took a lot of practicing, but it feels good and I feel like I’ve accomplished something,” he said.
Stewart said he may try out for a leadership role as a junior, but for now just wants to improve his skills.
“I plan to place better in competitions for myself next year as a sophomore,” he said.
He would like to attend either Tarleton State University or Baylor University and when asked what he loves about music, Stewart couldn’t really describe the feeling it gives him but knows that it’s something he wants to continue in the future.
“I just love music and band got a lot more spiritual over here in high school,” he said. “I feel honored to be part of this group.”
