Stephenville cowboy Marty Yates walked out of AT&T Stadium in Arlington Sunday $100,000 richer, having just won the RFD-TV’s The American rodeo tie down calf roping.

He edged out fellow Texan, Timber Moore of Aubrey in the event, who didn’t do too bad either, pocketing $25,000 for second place.

The E-T attempted to contact Yates by phone but was unable to do so at the time this story was written.

According to WranglerNetwork.com, “At 22-years-old, Marty Yates is one of the young guns of tie-down roping and has come out firing since he joined the PRCA in 2013.

“He qualified for his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in 2014 in fifth place. He won the RAM National Circuit Finals in 2015 his first national championship.”

The American is the biggest-paying, one-day event each year — this was event’s the fourth year — with each event paying $100,000.

Other first-place winners were:

• Hailey Kinsel — Barrel Racing

• Cody De Niss — Saddle Bronc Riding

• Sage Kimzey — Bull Riding.
