The TexAnns dropped their second consecutive game Saturday in a tight 53-48 contest against Texas Woman’s.

Tarleton’s Bailey Wipff continued her recent hot streak from the floor hitting two three pointers to open the scoring. Ikpeaku Iwobi also hit a jumper to give the TexAnns an 8-0 lead to start the game.

Over the remaining eight minutes of the first quarter, the Pioneers outscored the TexAnns 9-5, to enter the second quarter trailing only 13-9.

The momentum from the end of the first quarter carried over for Texas Woman’s as they outscored Tarleton 15-11 in the second period to tie things up at 24 at halftime.

The game remained close throughout most of the third quarter until the Pioneers went on an 8-2 run to extend their lead to five points, 38-33 with close to three minutes remaining.

Next, it was the TexAnns’ turn as they ended the third quarter on a 7-0 run and retook the lead, 40-38, heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

The fourth quarter was where things went south for Tarleton.

The TexAnns didn’t hit a field goal until the 5:18 mark, which ended a 9-0 Texas Woman’s run. Trailing only by four, 47-43, the TexAnns only scored five more points in the period while allowing the Pioneers to hit four free throws to ice the game late.

Bailey Wipff was the TexAnns’ leading scorer with 13 points, while Mackenzie Hailey added another 11 points and Travanti Downes scored 10. Ikpeaku Iwobi also had a solid outing with seven points and 11 rebounds.

The TexAnns are now 12-12 on the season and 11-7 in Lone Star Conference play. They’ll be back in action on Thursday when they travel to take on Texas-Permian Basin.
