Each year the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council selects a member of the community for the Patron of the Year Award, and this year’s recipient is Bob Becker.

“He has been instrumental in establishing our Art in Public Places program by donating and installing the trim in our various exhibit space across the community,” CTFAC executive director Julie Crouch said. “He is the sweetest man on earth who’s just very giving and loves his community.”

Becker does wood-working and cabinetry, but is also the music director at Greens Creek Baptist Church and plays several instruments.

“It’s a joy to give back to the fine arts community,” Becker said. “I’m a fine arts person, a musician, and I grew up in a house of musicians and so fine arts has always been important.”

The Patron of the Year Award was established in 2001 with the purpose of recognizing a CTFAC member for their outstanding contribution to the organization and the arts either through monetary donations, volunteering or both. Every year the award is sponsored by a business and this year’s award was sponsored by TexasBank.

“It’s a mosaic of the people who have helped shaped the arts council and when you look at the recipients, they’ve all brought something different to the table,” Crouch said. “I love how each year the idea of who it will be presents itself. It may be a whole new angle of a contribution, but equally as meaningful.”
