Special to the E-T

Tarleton State University’s College of Science and Technology has two upcoming events for the community that are sure to provide entertainment for every member of the family.

The university will present its Autumn Star Party at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Hunewell Ranch in Stephenville. Astronomy enthusiasts and amateur stargazers alike will gather to view the night sky away from city lights.

Several small telescopes will be available in addition to the university’s 32-inch research-grade telescope in the observatory building. Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own telescopes.

Then on Saturday, the university will host its annual Community Science Day in and around the science building. This free event will feature chemistry club demonstrations, robotics demonstrations, solar telescopes, radio-telescope demonstrations and a solar-powered amateur radio station.  In addition, there will be free planetarium shows on the hour from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Tarleton’s Hunewell Ranch is located at 5090 CR 182 in Stephenville. For directions, visit www.tarleton.edu/observatory/map_observatory.html or call 968-9730.
