Hurrah for Morgan Mill!

We have had a busy week in Morgan Mill, but it is not over. Tonight there is one more dinner at Morgan Mill Baptist Church. The meat will be provided. You are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Brother Joe Rogers wants everyone to attend this community event starting at 6 p.m. Celebrate the season of Thanksgiving with your neighbors.

Ben and Bettye Jones/Wood’s family are fixing Thanksgiving dinner at the Community Center at noon on Thursday, Nov. 27. Bettye is inviting anyone who would enjoy a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal to come and join her family. Give her a call for more information.

Last Sunday, Morgan Millite Lariat Larner, 11, won the goat tying contest at the Regional 3 Texas High School Rodeo in the Youth Division. There were 41 kids who competed in this contest when Lariat was able to have her personal best time ever of 9.431 seconds. She was the only one in the competition that had a “9”. Lariat has been involved in roping since she was seven years old. She also runs poles and came in fifth in the calf roping contest on Saturday. Proud mom and dad are Jodi and Marty. Other Morgan Millites who participated were Whitney Green, Trevor Hedeman, Jacee and Talon Halliday.

This week at Stephenville Optimist Club it was announced that seventh grader Rachel Elston was the Henderson Junior High Student of the Month. Rachel is the daughter of Dwayne and Shelly; the grand daughter of Linda and Carrol Elston; and of course, the great grand daughter of Bernice Larner. Congratulations to a well-deserving young lady.

Your Morgan Mill School Board elected Bob Newby, president; Ken Stokes, vice president; and Bettye Key, secretary. In the December meeting, security lights and electrical outlets for the bus barn will be discussed.

Sunday, Nov. 30, is fifth Sunday lunch at the Community Center for Morgan Mill Methodist Church. Everyone is invited for a noon feast and get-together.

It is time to decorate the Community Center for the holidays. Sunday, Nov. 30 at 1:30, come and help unwind the lights and set up the tree. Everything is in the attic, so with a little help we will have the Community Center in holiday dress for all the upcoming parties.

Monday, Dec. 1, is the first home basketball game for Morgan Mill. The boys will start at 6 p.m. and the girls will follow. Coach Jason Poston is excited about teams. The “B” team girls have already started and they just lost by a few points.

UIL competition is Dec. 9 - 10. Barbara Ireck is excited that everyone will be participating and we will enter all events. The elementary grades brought home first place last year, so the standards have been set high.

Looking ahead, Senior Citizens will be celebrating on Thursday, Dec. 11, with a gift exchange. Everyone is asked to bring a $10 gift for the exchange and your favorite snack to eat.
