The Erath County United Way was started in 1971 under the name of the Stephenville United Fund. The organization soon expanded and in 1989 became the Stephenville United Way. Volunteers decided that the organization should also encompass others in the county and in 1995 the Stephenville United Way became the Erath County United Way.
Today, the Erath County United Way continues to bring support to those in our community. Every year, there is a goal to bring in even more money than the previous.
The United Way board is comprised of local volunteers committed to helping those in Erath County. The Erath County United Way is a non-profit organization aimed at indirectly providing partial funding to their partner non-profit agencies. Those partner agencies in turn provide vital services which serve over 15,000 people in Erath County. The Erath County United Way currently has 15 partner agencies, which are all focused on helping people in our community. Those agencies are the Boy Scouts of America, Cross Timbers Family Services, CASA for the Cross Timbers Area, Dublin Senior Citizens, Dublin Goodfellows, Erath County 4-H, Erath Co. Meals on Wheels, Erath Co. Child Welfare Board, Girl Scouts of Central Texas, Heart of Texas Red Cross, H.O.P.E., Inc., Texas Neighbor Hood Services, Treehouse After School Program, TSU- Equine Assisted Therapy, and Star Council on Drug Abuse. To become a partner agency an agency must apply for funding. There is certain criteria that must be met and then the Erath County United Way budget committee will decide if that agency can begin receiving funding. To be eligible an agency must be able to show that they serve the individuals of Erath County, reveal their financial statements and audits, show how the funds will directly benefit the residents of Erath County, be able to aid the ECUW annual drive, and if the agency had previously received funding they must show exactly how the funding from the ECUW was used.
The Erath County United Way is currently in the last half of their fundraising campaign. The campaign started on Sept. 1 and ends on Oct. 31. The 2011 campaign goal is $265,000. The organization has received numerous gifts from generous individuals, businesses and organizations. There have been several fundraising events such as The Annual United Way Fish Fry, Kevin Kolb Football Camp, FMC Annual Golf Tournament, Dine Out United, Morgan Mill Pancake Breakfast, and The Campaign Kickoff at First Financial Bank.
Even a small donation can help enrich the lives of those in our community. Donations that the Erath County United Way receives stays local, less than one and a half percent of donations go to the United Way of America and the United Way of Texas for organization dues.
