Tarleton State rallied to scored a pair of runs late in the game, but it was not enough as the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas (20-12, 13-7 LSC) downed the Texans (17-13, 8-10 LSC), 4-2, Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Nolan Ryan Field in Kingsville.

The Texans trailed 3-0 heading into the eighth inning, but Garrett Kilgore drove in a pair of runs on his double down the left field line to pull within a run of the Javelinas. TAMUK would make a pitching change though, and Ryan Scott came into the game and shut down the rally with two straight outs.

Scott (S, 6) would not allow a run in his 1 2/3 innings pitched on the way to earning his sixth save of the season, while starting pitcher Matt Rhodes (W, 5-2) gave up just the two runs on seven hits and struck out six in 7 1/3 innings of work.

Tarleton starter Kyle Gottardy (L, 2-2) gave up three runs on eight hits, but he struck out six batters in his 5 1/3 innings pitched while taking the loss.

Alvaro Moreno and Noel Nevarez led the Texans at the plate with a pair of hits each in the contest.

The Texans will remain on the road next weekend with a three-game series against Eastern New Mexico set to begin on Friday.
