After a summer in which he starred in events such as the Battle of the Borders and the World Wood Bat Championships, Maddux Conger has been named an All-American.

The Stephenville High School junior hasn't pitched much so far this season, but is expected to be a crucial part of the Yellow Jacket rotation as the playoffs draw near. But the righty is a first-team honoree on the Perfect Game USA Underclass All-American Team.

Conger, listed at 6-2, 195, committed to Arizona State last fall after receiving several offers over the summer. He was also on recruiters' wish lists at TCU, Texas,l Texas A&M, Arkansas and others.

Conger and the Yellow Jackets are 4-0 in District 7-3A, which resumes tonight when they host Glen Rose at 7:30 p.m. at James T. Young Field.

Conger is one of 100 underclassman listed on the first-team, and one of 14 from Texas. The nearest fellow first-team selection is Beau Burrows at Weatherford.
