Spring is in the air and for many area youth that means baseball. The All-Stars League provides youth sports experiences for children with special needs who are not able to participate in traditional leagues.
The Stephenville Optimist Club and Stephenville Lions Club sponsor the league and provide volunteers to coach the kids through games. Event organizers say they believe it's not just the children who win, but the volunteers as well.
"Everyone has a great time getting out in the fresh air and sunshine to enjoy some baseball," said Teresa Burdick.
No score is kept and all kids get to participate. Everyone plays for the love of the game and registration is free for participants.
Burdick said this season the children will play T-ball. Volunteers will assist each child to ensure they participate to their best. For safety purposes, all kids not at bat or playing defense will be in the dugouts cheering on their teammates.
Each child will get a T-shirt with registration and no other equipment is required by the league.
"We are so excited to begin another fun season with the kids," Burdick said.
The season will officially begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 24, at Faith Field, next to Faith Lutheran Church. Games will last an hour and will continue every Monday through April 28.
