Stephenville ISD director of maintenance Keith Starnes gave an update on school construction Monday to the board of trustees.
Starnes said the cement for the parking lot at Central Elementary has been poured and is expected to be painted this week.
As the school nears completion, officials are still trying to determine what kind of fence will be used near the parking lot and playground.
"We're thinking a broad iron fence right now. It will be better than a chain link and it will look nicer," Starnes said. "Having the chain link fence didn't seem to be the right thing to do."
Construction at Chamberlin Elementary is also nearing completion and all classes are now operational at the new building.
Starnes said the next step is to begin moving equipment into the new computer labs.
Starnes said a new PA system will eventually be installed at every school in the district, giving the principals and Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd the ability to issue a lockdown announcement from their office. Those who will able to access the technology will begin training next week.
Dates for Ribbon Cuttings on both campuses were also announced. Central's will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, and Chamberlin's will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 18.
