Hook Elementary is home to one of only 10 artists in the state selected for the Texas Gallery at the 2014 National Art Educators Association Convention.

Emma Pope, a third grade student at Hook, was honored at the Texas Youth Art Month Capital Exhibit in Austin Sunday. Pope's self portrait in oil pastel titled, The Artist in Me, was displayed along with 100 other works in Austin for a week.

State Rep. J.D. Sheffield even posted pictures of Pope's work on his Facebook page.

The artwork has been moved to the Bullock State History Museum where it will remain for the rest of the month.

Pope is one of 10 artists selected to have work displayed in the Texas Gallery at the 2014 National Art Educators Association Convention in San Diego, CA from March 29-31.

Pope said she created the piece in the hopes of it being displayed the TASA/TASB Convention in September. Since Stephenville ISD Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd was the incoming president of TASB, Stephenville ISD had the opportunity to present a show about the district and have a gallery of art work by SISD students. SISD art teacher Emily McLemore asked if Pope would like to submit her piece for Texas Youth Art Month and both said they were pleased when it was selected.
