Ragan Wood has had quite the beginning to his high school powerlifting career.

The Stephenville High School freshman totaled a personal best 1,095 pounds to finish eighth at a Texas High School Powerlifting Association regional meet in Whitney Saturday.

Wood was the only Yellow Jacket to qualify for the event outright. He began his day with a 415-pound squat, then pressed 270 on the bench for a sub-total of 685 pounds.

Wood finished with a 405-pound deadlift. He competes in the 181-pound class.

Dylan Driver was an alternate but found out a couple days before the meet he would get to compete. The senior was in the 275-pound class, but was eliminated from the competition after being red-lighted on all his squat attempts.
