SISD Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd told the board Tuesday that the students who vandalized two portable buildings at Henderson Junior High School during the Christmas break caused $130,000 in damages.
The damage was done by three Stephenville ISD students, two in junior high and one in the sixth grade, who told police they did it because they were "bored."
According to Keith Starnes, director of maintenance, $85,000 of the damage was to technology items including SMART Boards, computers and phones from Central Elementary that were being stored there while construction at the school was ongoing.
The deductible on the school district's insurance policy is $2,500. Floyd said he gave permission to the insurance agent to seek restitution from the parents.
"All three students have been expelled for the rest of the school year," Floyd said. "Pending their outcomes from the juvenile justice system, the student's situation will be re-evaluated prior to the beginning of the next school year."
The portable buildings, which are used for DAEP (Disciplinary Alternative Education Program), are not completely repaired, however, one of them has been repaired to a reasonable state and is being used.
