Traffic on Washington Street will soon travel at a different pace, especially around Ollie Street where the Texas Department of Transportation is currently installing a new light.

The traffic light, according to Michael Peters, a public information officer for TxDOT, is expected to improve safety at the intersection by reducing the chance of right angle accidents and allowing reasonable time for vehicles to cross.

TxDOT decided to wait until this time for construction to commence so the traffic from Tarleton State students and Stephenville ISD students would not be delayed.

"The fact of the matter is that with less students being in town the traffic on Washington is less to deal with," Peters added.

The project which began on Dec. 5 is expected to be operational by late January or early February, weather permitting.
