Frisco Lone Star outscored Stephenville's boys 46-15 over the second half to defeat the Yellow Jackets 73-45 in an opening-round game of the Whataburger Tournament Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets (2-10), who are in the Blue Division of the event, face the loser of Argyle and Clarksville at 1:30 p.m. Friday. A win would have them playing again at 7:30 p.m. Friday, while a loss would push them to a 4:30 p.m. game that afternoon. The event concludes Saturday.

Stephenville led Lone Star 30-27 at the intermission, but was outscored 21-8 in the third and 25-7 in the fourth.

BJ Walker was the Jackets' only double-digit scorer with 10 points. Malik Taylor scored nine, all in the second period, and Grayson Sweet added eight, all before the break.

Mookie Carlile made his season debut with seven points. He helped the Stephenville football team to the state semifinals, and a broken finger prevented him from returning alongside football players Walker, Sweet and Tyler Isham last week.

Isham and Colby Brandon each scored four Thursday, and Will Holland and Garrett Cole each added two.

Stephenville continues to play without Jarrett Stidham and Brandon Stevens, two of its top returning letter winners from last season. Stidham is nursing an injured hamstring that left him on crutches following football season. Stevens is also injured, according to head coach Jonathan Normand.
