While most families were opening presents and enjoying Christmas Eve dinner, one Lingleville family was meeting with Erath County Volunteer Fire Rescue volunteers, Erath County Sheriff's deputies and the Lingleville Volunteer Fire Department who were out searching for their son.

According to Chris Brooks, ECVFR coordinator, the seven-year-old boy was out playing with his dogs before 5 p.m. He was last seen walking toward a creek near the family's home west of Lingleville on County Road 355.

"We were dispatched around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday (Christmas Eve)," Brooks said. "The search lasted about an hour before he was found."

The boy was located about a mile from his home. Brooks said that while the boy was lost and scared, one of the dogs had stayed with him and he was returned to his family without any major injuries.

"The size of the heart and the amount of passion the volunteer firemen and women in this county is unmeasurable, especially when there is a child involved," Brooks said. "It makes me proud to call myself a member."
