No. 11 Tarleton State (10-0) went 3-0 last week including wins in its first two games away from Stephenville, and Lone Star Conference officials took notice.

Tarleton point guard Chuck Guy has been named LSC Offensive Player of the Week and center Davene Carter LSC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Texans to wins over McMurry at home and Central Washington and No. 5 Western Washington at the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas.

Guy was 29-31 from the free throw stripe and averaged 15 points, five assists and 2.7 steals for the week. He was 6-6 from the line in the final minutes of the 89-83 victory over McMurry, and repeated that feat in the 75-71 win against Central Washington. He scored 19 in the 86-69 thumping of Western Washington.

A senior from Fort Worth, Guy averages 16.5 points, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals for the year.

Carter poured in 20 points, grabbed seven boards and blocked two shots against Western Washington, which won the West Region to reach the Elite Eight last season. Carter averaged four rebounds last week and had three total blocks. He was named to the all-tournament team at the South Point event.

Carter, a junior from Duncanville, averages 10.1 points, 7.3 boards, 1.1 blocks and 1.0 steals per game for the season.

The Texans are idle until the new year. They host South Dakota Mines on Jan. 4 and begin LSC play against Angelo State on Jan. 8, both at Wisdom Gym.
