Five Dublin players scored at least eight points as the Lions waltzed out of Merkel with an easy 61-33 victory to begin District 7-2A boys action Tuesday night.
Dublin led 34-14 by halftime of the win, its third in four games. The Lions aim for a 2-0 start to league play when they visit Hawley at about 8 p.m. Friday.
The Lions hit 56 percent from the 3-point arc and shot 44 percent overall Tuesday, while Merkel was 0-11 from deep and hit just 25 percent from the floor. Dublin more than doubled up the Badgers in rebounding, 47-23.
Abel Aguilar was 3-4 from outside the arc on his way to 14 points while dishing out six assists. Dirk DeVries scored 13 points and collected six boards and Devan Thompson posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Ricky Chacon scored nine and Cade Hill eight for the Lions. Zoey Kendall netted three while Travis Blazi and Connor Moore added two each.
Friday's action in Hawley begins with sub-varsity teams at 4 p.m. The varsity girls preface the varsity boys at 6:30 p.m.
