Comanche scored 13 of the first 15 points and led 26-13 by the end of the opening quarter of a 61-45 victory over Dublin in each team's District 7-2A girls basketball opener at CHS Thursday evening.

Dublin opened the second quarter with seven straight points - five of them by Carey Belew - to close its deficit to 27-20. Comanche answered with eight straight, but Dublin scored 10 of the final 12 before halftime to make it 37-30.

The Lady Lions cut their deficit to 39-35 with five straight points by Sydney Beck early in the third, and made it 40-37 on a deuce by Faith Faulkner moments later. That's as close as they would get, however, as Comanche went on a 10-1 run to finish the third on top 50-38.

The late third quarter surge turned into a 15-2 run by the middle of the fourth when Comanche was on top 55-39.

Beck led Dublin with 16 points. Monica Montelongo netted eight, Mica Muro six, Carey Belw five, Amber James four, London Jones three and Faulkner three.

The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday but was postponed after Dublin closed its schools due to the remnants of last weekend's winter storm.

Dublin is right back in action today when the Lady Lions host Clyde at 6:30 p.m. Sub-varsity play begins at 4 p.m.
