Mohammed Lee doesn't need to be in the starting five to earn recognition. He does just fine coming off the bench.
Lee scored 23 points on a night when the Texans' bench players amassed 56 in a 90-35 beat down of Division II Heartland Conference member Oklahoma Panhandle State last week.
On Tuesday, Lone Star Conference officials took notice, naming the junior guard the league's offensive player of the week.
Lee was 8-of-10 from the floor including 3-of-4 from the free throw stripe against OPSU. He also hit 4-of-5 free throws.
It's the first such honor for Lee, who transferred to Tarleton after earning junior college All-America honors at San Jacinto Community College in Pasadena near Houston.
Tarleton jumped three spots to No. 11 in this week's National Association of Basketball Coaches poll and returns to action against McMurry at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wisdom Gym. The TexAnns open the doubleheader at 6 p.m. against Cedarville (Ohio).
