A pair of double-digit scoring performances wasn't enough to save shorthanded Stephenville (0-7) against talent-laden Ponder (10-1) as the Yellow Jackets lost 57-31 on the opening day of tournament action in Lake Worth Thursday.
The event did not continue Friday and Saturday due to the winter storm, which was reportedly even worse around Lake Worth and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex than in Stephenville.
Colby Brandon scored 12 points and Tyler Griffin 11 for Stephenville, but nobody else had more than three. Sutton Fambro netted three, Garrett Cole and Evan Moody had two each and Branndon Bledsoe chipped in with one.
The Jackets won't be the only shorthanded team when they head to Graham Tuesday, because the Steers will also be missing players still involved in the football playoffs. Tipoff at GHS is approximately 7:30 p.m. following a 4:30 start to sub-varsity play.
