The winter weather that has stormed through Texas has caused cancellation of the CHAMPS Heart of Texas Bowl that was scheduled for Saturday in Copperas Cove.

It was supposed to be Tarleton State's first bowl appearance in 27 years after the Texans captured a share of the Lone Star Conference title for the third time in school history. But the game against Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) will not be made up, according to Tarleton head coach Cary Fowler.

"I cried I was so upset," Fowler Friday afternoon. "I'm about to tell my team, my seniors, that that's it, it's over. I have to tell some of them their careers are over because of something they have no control over. It's unfortunate."

The Texans conclude the season with a 7-3 record, their best in Fowler's four seasons at the helm.
