North Texans are preparing for an arctic blast that is expected to bring precipitation, sleet and sub-freezing conditions to the area over the next several days.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Erath County through Friday morning. A blast of cold air is expected to make its way to the area this afternoon followed by an arctic front tonight.
Freezing rain is expected to continue through Friday and could complicate the morning commute with ice on bridges and overpasses. The NWS also warns of possible ice accumulations that could bring down trees and power lines and cause power outages.
Officials with area school districts say they will make the decision about Friday classes early that morning. Information about possible cancellations or delays can be found on the Stephenville Empire-Tribune's Facebook page or on Twitter @ETeditor.
