Stephenville was looking for an early edge against Breckenridge Tuesday night. Senior guard Dally Friedrich was happy to provide it.

Friedrich hit back-to-back 3-pointers around a Breckenridge turnover, then drove to the basket and knocked down a runner to complete an eight-point minute and a 10-0 Stephenville run late in the first quarter.

Friedrich sparked Stephenville to a 14-6 lead, and though the Lady Bucks hit the final bucket of the first, the Honeybees kept them at arm's length the rest of the way in a 67-37 victory at Gandy Gym.

Stephenville's pressure defense gave Breckenridge fits in the second quarter. Takeaways allowed Cassidy Cline to hit three breakaway layups, and by the time she drained a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the half, the Honeybees had the Lady Bucks doubled up at 32-16.

Seven straight points - four in transition by Cline and a 3-pointer from Bayleigh Chaviers - made it 39-16 to start the third. Breckenridge slowed the tide with six straight points of its own, but Bethanie Bouchey ended the rally by scoring in the paint with a foul then adding the ensuing free throw for a 42-22 lead just before the two-minute mark of the period.

Tiara Green pushed the lead to 22 with an old-fashioned 3-point play of her own in the opening minute of the fourth, and Cline followed with a steal and coast-to-coast layup to push the advantage to 49-25.

Cline led Stephenville with 18 points, Friedrich and Green netted 12 each and Bouchey tallied nine. Kourtney Seaton scored six, Breanna Wooley five, Chaviers three and Lyndi Graham two.

The Bees will be in Glen Rose Thursday through Saturday for tournament play.
