Stephenville's rainfall last month totaled 6.31 inches, which boosted the annual total to 28.60 inches.

That's the word from Dr. Stuart Chilton, local weather observer.

"The 28.60 for the first nine months of the year is 2.60 inches above the average amount, 26.00 inches, for this period of time," Chilton said.

Most of September's rain came during a 24-hour period on Sept. 19-20 when 5.61 inches were recorded. Other rains fell on Sept. 2 (0.54 of an inch); Sept. 10 (0.13 of an inch) and Sept. 28 (0.03 of an inch).

Metroplex weather officials had estimated Stephenville's rainfall this past weekend would total between 1.5 inches to 2 inches. This did not occur, and the rainfall in the city only measured .03 of an inch. Some gauges in the rural areas of the county received from 0.10 of an inch to 0.30 of an inch.

The cold front, which triggered the light rain this past weekend, did lower the temperatures to the low 60s Sunday morning and the upper 50s Monday morning.

Additional rain is predicted this coming weekend, when another cold front move through. Average rainfall for October in Stephenville is 3.30 inches.
