Turns out Tyler Jones won't be redshirting after all.
Texas State lifted Jones' redshirt and named him the starter for Saturday's game against Wyoming, and the 2012 state champion and 3A Player of the Year from Stephenville did not disappoint.
Jones was 14-18 passing for 196 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed seven times for 56 yards, giving him a hand in 252 yards of offense as Texas State defeated Wyoming 42-21.
TSU outscored Wyoming 28-7 after halftime, when the game was tied at 14-14. There was a long lightning delay in the second quarter.
Jones was named to multiple all-state teams last year and received 3A Offensive Player of the Year honors from the Texas Sportswriters Association. He was also the offensive MVP in the 3A Division I championship, when he led Stephenville to a UIL 11-man title-game record 70 points with five touchdowns passing and four rushing.
