Once again, the plan appears to have worked.

Take it on the chin early agains teams such as 5A powers Lake Travis and New Braunfels, then release all the frustration against District 7-3A opponents such as Hillsboro.

Stephenville ran its win streak to five and began defense of its District 7-3A championship Friday, routing host Hillsboro 25-5, 25-17, 25-20.

Senior setters Chrislyn Wells and Tiara Green, the only holdovers from Stephenville's 2012 team that reached the 3A Region I final, said the mostly new club was excited for the start of district play, then they went out and backed it up by drubbing the Lady Eagles in the opening set to send a message to the rest of the league.

A couple sophomores led the way again at the net, as Kourtney Seaton and Mikayla Hobbs each collected 10 kills. Hobbs also aced three serves.

Serving has been a big part of Stephenville's win streak, as the Bees aced 13 serves against Gatesville, 11 against Robinson and eight in just three sets against Hillsboro. Kaleigh Conger and Sierra Varnado served two aces each on Friday.

Stephenville visits Alvarado Tuesday with junior varsity action beginning at 5 p.m. and the varsity match to follow around 6 p.m. The Honeybees then return home to battle Saginaw in non-district play at about 6 p.m. next Friday at Gandy Gym.

District 7-3A play then resumes on Tuesday, Oct. 8, when the Bees host Venus.
