The Stephenville City Council will look slightly different after Tuesday night's meeting when Martha Taylor, Place 7, officially steps down.

Taylor announced her resignation last month citing the fact that she is moving outside of the city limits and will no longer be eligible to hold office.

With an open seat, the council has two options. They could either appoint someone to fill the vacancy until the May elections or they could leave the spot open.

"The Nominations Committee met last week and they will recommend the council leaves the seat vacant until the elections in May," said City Secretary Cindy Stafford.

The committee consists of Malcolm Cross, Russ McDanel, Scott Evans and Taylor.

"This situation doesn't happen very often. If we did appoint someone, it would give the impression that we were making an incumbent and we don't want to do that," Evans said.
