Kim Johnston said doing something to help the environment and help clean up the community she grew up in was always in the back of her mind, but she never thought she could make a difference.

"It was always there, to be honest," Johnston said when asked what got her involved. "I always knew I should be doing something, but I never felt like I could make a difference alone. I just thought, 'I'm only one person, what can I do?'"

Johnston discovered she could do a lot.

One night, while doing a search on her computer, Johnston found the Ian Somerhalder Foundation - Texas Community Crew and something just clicked. She looked into the group further and decided this was how she could make a difference. Not alone, but with a group of people who cared about the same things she did.

Now that group is coming together with the residents of Morgan Mill to help clean up the neighborhood. On Saturday, Oct. 19, the ISF-Texas crew will meet with anyone interested in helping clean up the community at the Morgan Mill school beginning at 8 a.m.

The crew will pick up trash and debris along roadways and collect recyclables (paper, plastic and cardboard) around the community. Following the cleanup, the crew and community members will gather back at the school for a picnic potluck at noon.

Johnston said she hopes the effort will help jumpstart an effort in Morgan Mill to keep the community clean and promote recycling.

"I'm just really excited to have something like this here in Morgan Mill," Johnston said. "I hope everyone comes out and takes part. This could be the start of something really great."
