St. Mary's (5-6) edged Tarleton State (7-4) in a back-and-forth non-conference marathon Tuesday night.
Tarleton won the first set before the Lady Rattlers won the next two. The TexAnns dominated the fourth before St. Mary's answered in the fifth to win 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 10-25, 18-16 at Wisdom Gym South.
The TexAnns actually outscored the Lady Rattlers 109-98, led by Katie Covell and Jazmine Green with 17 kills each. Stacie Murrah had 10 kills, reaching double figures for the eighth straight match, but she also committed 10 attack errors. Tarleton committed 32 attack errors as a team, five more than St. Mary's.
Daneille Barker amassed a career-best 63 assists for the TexAnns, while Emily Klein racked up 28 digs and Covell added 19 for a double-double.
Tarleton is 2-0 in Lone Star Conference play, and resumes league action at Texas A&M-Kingsville at 7 p.m. Friday. The TexAnns were scheduled to stop through San Antonio on their way home and face Our Lady of the Lake Saturday, but that match has been cancelled.
