Some of the greatest names in the sport of rodeo will be in Stephenville this weekend for the Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo.
Professional rodeo action will begin Friday at Lone Star Arena. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday night with performances starting at 7, followed by a Dancin’ in the Dirt Texas Music Concert each night featuring Will Hobbs and the Crop Dusters. The final performance will be a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. with gates opening at 12:30 pm. The slack performance will start at 8 a.m. Friday and is free to the public.
“We are so excited to be hosting our 44th annual PRCA rodeo here in Stephenville,” said July Danley, president of the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce. “The Chamber encourages the community to come out to Lone Star Arena and enjoy watching all the professional athletes - cowboys, cowgirls, horses and bulls - that have traveled many miles to compete here in the Cowboy Capital of the World."
Activities during each performance will include the traditional rodeo events as well as a calf scramble, county team roping, Bobby Kerr’s Mustang Makeover Act and much more family-fun entertainment. For the kids, there will be the ever-popular Mutton Bustin’ event allowing kids 3-7 years old and under 50 pounds to test their abilities on a wild and wooly sheep. Entry fee is $10 and will be limited to the first 20 contestants each performance. Mutton Bustin’ contestants must register between 5:30-6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and between 12:30-1 p.m. on Sunday. Buckles will be awarded to the winners.
Advance tickets are available at the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce, Chick Elms Grand Entry Western Store and Saddle Rags. Tickets are $8 for adults in advance and $10 at the gate. Tickets for children 12 and under are $5.
