STEPHENVILLE - Services for Jerry Don Slawson, 63, a retired roofing contractor, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Lacy Funeral Home with Don Middleton officiating. Burial will follow at West End Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Jerry Don was born in Lampasas. He was a graduate of Lampasas High School and Tarleton State University and later served in the Texas National Guard. He was baptized in the Church of Christ in 1972. He built his family, his home and his business in Stephenville.

For 30 years, Jerry Don was the beloved husband of Melinda Slawson. He treasured his children and their spouses; Joe Don Slawson and wife Shelby of Stephenville; Jason Slawson and wife Amber of San Angelo; Justin Slawson and wife Patty of Stephenville; Mark Fenner of Stephenville; and Rachel Edwards and husband Ronnie of Fulshear. He took great delight in his grandchildren: Sophie Belle Slawson, Etta Rae Slawson, Jeremy Jones, Charlee Slawson, Brandon Fenner, and Allison and Emily Edwards. Other special family members include: sisters Deborah Spicer and husband Terry, Connie Graves and husband Randy, and Brenda Tucker and husband Gene; sister-in-law Julie Burket and husband Morgan; cousin, Darrell Heckman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He cherished his wife and his family, believed in working diligently with his hands, quietly served those in need, cheered loudly for the Yellow Jackets, and saw to it that all of his sons knew how to shingle a roof and his grandchildren knew a thing or two about goat tending. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
