Stephenville entertains Waco La Vega at 7:30 p.m. tonight. More importantly, the community will be out in full force as "Team Boyd."

Infant Boyd Mabry, the son of a Stephenville assistant coach, is the beneficiary of t-shirt sales for the Yellow Jackets' fifth annual Heart of Gold game. Shirts are being sold for $12 at Barefoot Athletics while supplies last.

For more on Mabry, see this release from the SHS athletics office:

Boyd Clarke Mabry was born April 24, 2013 and was a happy, healthy and seemingly ordinary baby. After spending less than 24 hours at home, Boyd began to lose his color. He was transported to Cook Children’s Hospital where he spent the next two months of his life.

Boyd was diagnosed with Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), a rare congenital heart defect in which the left ventricle of the heart is severely underdeveloped.

In babies with HLHS, the aorta and left ventricle are underdeveloped before birth, and the aortic and mitral valves are either too small to allow sufficient blood flow or are closed altogether. Babies with this defect will undergo several reconstructive surgeries. The first surgery is called the ”Norwood Procedure” and is done within a few days of birth. The “Glenn Procedure” is done at 3 to 6 months of age, followed by the “Fontan Procedure” at 1 1/2 to 5 years of age. Boyd has completed the Norwood Procedure and is presently recovering at Cook Children’s from the Glenn Procedure.

Boyd did get to spend some time at home this summer. He got to be a regular baby where, except for a few special circumstances, he showed to be a happy baby, full of smiles and shrieks of joy. He has been surrounded by love, support and prayers by family, friends and even complete strangers.

Boyd’s parents, Garrett and Simone Mabry are truly blessed to have such an amazing little boy and are truly humbled and appreciative of the love and support they have felt from this community.
