It's been a long time in the making, but Amy Kushnir's first cookbook is finally available to the hungry masses.

Perhaps you're familiar with Kushnir's cuisine, which taps into our desire for simple, tasty comfort food that doesn't take a long time to prepare.

"I have three children and we are a very busy family," said Kushnir, a cooking contributor on WFAA. "Food is always going to be a part of our lives, so it has to be easy. If I love it, then I share it."

That simplicity is shared in Kushnir's new cookbook, "Red Dirt Recipes," which includes recipes from well-known Texas Country Music artists.

Back in 2010, Kushnir began interviewing musicians for a cooking segment on her website, MyTexasToday.

Before long, Kushnir had more than 60 videos and lots of great recipes she wanted to share.

Enter "Red Dirt Recipes."

The cookbook includes 47 recipes like Larry Joe Taylor's famous chili, Josh Abbott's pork chops and pears, Mike Ryan's stuffed jalapenos and Gary P. Nunn's blueberry/lemon tart.

Those who can't wait to get their hands on the cookbook, which came out Tuesday, can get a copy this weekend at Rhymes and Vines at Melody Mountain Ranch, where Kushnir will be on hand signing copies and hosting cooking demonstrations. The books will be on sale at Rhymes and Vines for $20, and are also available on her website at mytexastoday.com for $22.50.

Kushnir will host a cooking demonstration from 1-2 p.m. Friday when she will prepare some of those featured recipes like pizza on the grill and Ryan's stuffed jalapenos.

From noon-1 p.m. on Saturday, she will whip up Thom Shepherd's brisket sliders and baked beans.

Kushnir said most of the recipes are fairly simple to make with the exception of one by Brandon Rhyder.

"He is a pretty serious cook and likes to make a messy kitchen," she said with a laugh.
