The public has expressed criticism about construction on the Northwest Loop. They complain that it's taking too long and that repairs seem to be substandard.

Several people reported multiple potholes and damages near the Dale Street traffic light early this week, shortly after opening up that side of the road.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) was asked what caused the damage to the new repairs.

"With there being a traffic light in the area and school traffic during certain hours of the day, the motorists were sitting stopped at the light for too long which caused heat to generate from the stop and go traffic," said TxDOT representative Natalie Galindo. "The heat was causing the road to stick to the tires and when the cars continued down the road it would peel off the top layer."

A contractor working with TxDOT reportedly fixed the area on Tuesday with a hot mix placed over trouble spots. Galindo said the remedy should work and "not cause any more problems for motorists."

The construction is not expected to be complete until the end of November.
