Singers from the Stephenville High School Choir competed at the first-round auditions for Texas All-State Choir on Saturday in Granbury. Nearly 800 singers competed in the competition. Eighteen of 24 students from SHS advanced to the second round which will be held next month in Burleson.

Alto 1: Erina Han, *Racheal Tuggle, *Brittany Squires

Alto 2: Abigail Hallgarth, Kassie Marble, Chelcie Parry, Rachel Beverly

Tenor 1: Kellum Harris

Tenor 2: Cade Schmutz, Nathan LaRue

 Bass 1: Kelly Danley, Cassidy Smith, Coby Vandenberg

 Bass 2: Lukas Cain, Richard Wall

Other students representing the choir with distinction were Kaydee Jones, Emily Miller, Chawtana Edwards, Jacob Moore, Jarrett Kitchens and Andrew Brawner.

The students prepared four selections for the first-round auditions which included music in Latin, Spanish, Russian and English. The next four selections for round two will also be in foreign languages. The SHS Choir has had students make it to the All-State Choir four of the past 5 years, with the future looking bright for additional members this year.

The SHS choirs are currently preparing for the fall concert, “American Contemporary Composers: Songs of Faith, Hope and Love.” It will feature music of noted composers such as Eric Whitacre, Andrea Ramsey and Z. Randall Stroope. All five performing choirs from SHS will be presenting musical selections. The performance is free to the public and will be held on Monday, Oct. 28, at 7:15 at the high school J. C. Helm Auditorium. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
