Tarleton State (5-4) dropped a heartbreaker to its first nationally-ranked opponent of the season, then was swept by the tournament hosts at the Oredigger Classic in Golden, Colo. Saturday.
No. 6 Washburn edged the TexAnns in a five-set marathon, 25-16, 17-25, 26-24, 22-25 and 15-13 in the early match. Tarleton had won a similar five-set match against Western Oregon with a 17-15 fifth set the night prior. In Saturday's late game, Colorado School of Mines topped Tarleton 25-20, 25-20 and 25-15.
Stacie Murrah continues to pace Tarleton's attack. She had 17 kills against Washburn and 13 against Mines, giving her double digit kills in five straight matches.
Katie Covell had 13 kills and 14 digs against Washburn, while Danielle Barker amassed 51 assists, Emily Klein registered 26 digs and Kaitlyn White added eight kills and 11 digs.
Barker had 23 assists against Mines, while Klein posted 22 digs.
The TexAnns return to Wisdom Gym to host Cameron in their Lone Star Conference opener at 6 p.m. Friday.
